TRUMAN — A funeral service for Kay M. Sandersfeld, age 71, of Truman, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2020, at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop, Minn. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Fraser Township, Minn.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, social distancing will be observed.

While Kay was doing one of her favorite hobbies, bike riding, she was tragically taken from us and welcomed into the arms of her Lord on Friday evening, June 19, 2020, near her home in rural Truman.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to Saint James Lutheran School in Northrop, Zion Fraser Lutheran Church in Fraser Township, Redeemer Christian Academy in Wayzata, or Martin Luther High School in Northrop.

Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kay Marie (Dorendorf) Sandersfeld was born Feb. 11, 1949, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Delores (Ambrose) Dorendorf. She attended Fairmont public schools and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1967.

On Feb. 8, 1969, Kay was united in marriage to Ronald Sandersfeld at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township, Minn. This union was blessed with three children: Annette, Michael and Amanda.

The couple resided in Hartley, Iowa, Audubon, Iowa, and Slayton, Minn., before moving to Kay’s family’s farm in rural Fairmont. In 1987, Kay and Ron moved to rural Truman where they currently reside. Kay and Ron shared over 51 years together.

Kay worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Reiter in Fairmont. She later became the church secretary for both St. James Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church, where worked until her retirement on May 29, 2020.

Kay was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She volunteered as a 4-H leader when the kids were younger, as well as being a Pampered Chef consultant for many years. Kay enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning as well as sewing and quilting. She most loved the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ronald Sandersfeld of Truman, Minn.; children, Annette (Travis) Tesch of Everly, Iowa, Mike Sandersfeld (Kari Thomas) of Truman, Amanda (Eddy) Dehmer of St. Michael, Minn.; grandchildren, McKenzie Reynolds, Kayla Reynolds, Paige Reynolds, Tanner Tesch, Miles Gillum, Moses Gillum, and Gideon Dehmer; sisters, JoAnn (Armin) Flachsmann of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Ginny Schafer of Denver, Colo., Susan (Jerry) Knight of Severna Park, Md.; brothers-in-law, Merlin (Rebecca) Sandersfeld of Harris, Iowa, Vernon (Dee Ann) Sandersfeld of Hamilton, Mont., and Chuck (JoAnn) Selchert of Osceola, Wis.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Fred and Delores Dorendorf, Kay was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Julia Sandersfeld; and parents-in-law, Alfred and Marzella Sandersfeld.
