CHEROKEE, Iowa — Charles D. “Chuck” Steele, 64, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Monday, May 18, 2020 at his residence.

A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Chuck was born on April 14, 1956 in Denison, Iowa, to Dorrel and Patsy (Anderson) Steele. He attended Denison Schools and graduated in 1975. He continued his education and became a paramedic through the University of Iowa.

He was married to Sue Kregness in 1974 in Denison, Iowa. They had two children, Amy and Devin.

He was later married to Carla Schmitz Mummert in 1997, in Cherokee, Iowa.

Chuck worked for Warner Cable in Denison and later moved to Fairmont, Minnesota. While there, he worked for Weigh-Tronix. He was also a member of the Fairmont Fire Department and later became captain of the rescue squad. The highlights of his work life were designing and fabricating new ideas and serving as a paramedic specialist.

Chuck was free-spirited in his ways of life. He enjoyed hopping on his motorcycle and particularly loved riding in the Black Hills. Days at home were spent bird watching, making cookies, woodworking and spending time with family.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Dorrel.

Left to cherish Chuck are his wife, Carla, and her children, Aaron and Haley Mummert of Cherokee, Iowa; his daughter, Amy Harrison (Patrick McDonald) of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; his son, Devin Steele of Carroll, Iowa; his mother, Patsy A. Steele of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorla (Lewis) Linkugel of Lincoln, Nebraska; and brother and sister-in-law, Steve (Lisa) Steele of Fairmont, Minnesota. He also leaves behind six grandchildren.
