Stanley Darrell Olson

EAST CHAIN — Stanley Darrell Olson was born Aug. 26, 1932, at the Fairmont Hospital, the son of David and Edith (Ackerson) Olson. He grew up on a farm in the East Chain area. As a child he enjoyed playing basketball, especially using his hook shot. He attended East Chain School and graduated in 1950. On Aug. 22, 1954, Stanley was united in marriage to Irene Langemo at the Holden Lutheran Church in Kenyon, Minn. Together, the couple made their home on a farm near East Chain. They were blessed with three children, Karen, Mark, and Stephen. Stanley liked feeding hundreds of cattle. In 1962, he was named the Minnesota Outstanding Young Farmer. This opened the world for the family, as they traveled to Europe, the former Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union. Family gatherings were important to Stanley, as he grew up with Ackerson and Olson cousins in the area. This continued with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren now.

On March 30, 2020, Stanley passed away at the age of 87, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center. Then on March 31, 2020, a small group of family members gathered at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church cemetery for his burial service. At the end of the service, many pickups and cars slowly filed by to give the family their condolences. The family deeply appreciated this. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Karen (Cory) Erickson of Mt. Horeb, Wis., Mark (Donna) Olson of East Chain, Stephen (Linda) Olson of East Chain; grandchildren along with great grandchildren, Kristin (Zhao) Hu with Maya and Magnus; Katie (Huy) Do with Lana; Marie (Matt) Mehlhaf; Amy (Tyler) Groh with Mia; Bjorn (Hannah) Olson with Sophie and Soren; Aeli Olson, Signe Olson, and their mother, Amalia Olson; Stephanie Olson; sister-in-laws, Helen (Michael) Miller and Judy Langemo; as well as many extended family and friends. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, LeRoy (Janice) Olson, and Irene Olson. The family hopes to hold a visitation for Stanley on Aug. 20, 2020, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center, and a memorial service Aug. 21, 2020, at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church. The family wishes to deeply thank the staff of the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center for their thoughtful care of Stanley these past years.
