FAIRMONT — A private family graveside service for Irene E. Ziemer, age 94, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont, Minn. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.

Irene passed away from natural causes Saturday, March 21, 2020, at her home in Fairmont.

Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Irene E. (Sorensen) Ziemer was born March 11, 1926, on a farm in Tenhassen Township, Martin County, Minn., to Harry and Ellen (Lindell) Sorensen. She received her education by attending country school in Tenhassen District 109.

Irene was united in marriage to Edward R. Ziemer on March 17, 1946, in Fairmont. This marriage was blessed with four children: Rebecca, JoAnne, Jeff and Alan.

Irene and Edward made their home in Fairmont where Irene kept busy as a homemaker. She also worked at Woolworths, as a motel manager, in newspaper delivery, as a travel agent, at 3M, and was the founder and director of “Single Again.”

Irene was a Cub Scout den mother, foster mom, member of PTA, “Evergreen” Group, Redwood Drive Ladies, Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church, first president of Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, and was the recipient of The Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Fairmont Exchange Club.

She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Mathews of Fairmont, and Fern (Paul) Anderson of Dunnell (deceased two days after Irene); children, Jeff Ziemer of Fairmont, JoAnne (Mike) McNabb of Tampa, Fla., and Alan Ziemer of Lakewood, Wash.; grandchildren, Shelly (Larry) Wendel of East Chain, Kerry Schmidt of Lakefield, Heather (John) Gilderhus of Fairmont, Jason (Jeni) Ziemer of Sherburn, Aaron Ziemer of Fairmont, Andy Ziemer of Fairmont, Sarah (Max) Longley of Welcome, Jenny (Matt) Schuster of Granada, Holly (Tim) Drewes of Frazee, Heidi (Troy) Houger of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jeremy (Cameron) McNabb of Tampa, Fla., Chelsea (Hal) Johnson of Tampa, Fla., Jeffrey (Kaley) McNabb of Tampa, Fla., Andrea (Joe) Gresser of Puyallup, Wash.; 39 great-grandchildren and counting; 10 great-great-grandchildren and counting; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ellen Sorensen; brother, Walter H. Sorensen; sister, Florence Blowers; husband, Edward Ziemer; and daughter, Rebecca Rosburg.

The family requests no flowers at this time.
