WINNEBAGO — Amelia Irene Hardy, age 91, of Winnebago, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at United Hospital District in Blue Earth. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 16, at First United Methodist Church in Winnebago, with Rev. Russ Jacobsen officiating. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Monday morning at the church. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Winnebago.

Amelia was born Oct. 16, 1928, to Milton and Ida (Ernst) Winter in Sterling Township, Blue Earth County, Minn. She was one of six children.

In 1947, she married Francis Hardy. They spent their entire married life in Winnebago, many of those years in the same house, raising their four children. Amelia remained in that house until just before her passing.

Amelia was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Blue Earth Legion Auxiliary.

She worked at the Winnebago American Legion for more than 25 years, where she was everyone’s favorite bartender. She was a very organized, hard-working woman.

She enjoyed quilting, making dozens of quilts for family and friends. Other life pleasures were gardening, canning and reading. She was never picky about what she read and was always eager to share her books with others. All holidays were special to Amelia; the whole family would gather and indulge in her excellent cooking and baking. She had a way of making everyone in the family feel as though they were special and loved.

Left to cherish so many wonderful memories are her children, Larry Hardy of Redding, Iowa, Pamela Hardy of St. Paul, Minn., Linda (Gary) Friesenborg of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Paula (Ronald) Toupal of New Brighton, Minn.; grandchildren, Jaime (Doug) Wolter, Traci (Darrel) Bell, Matthew Toupal and Kelly Toupal; great-grandchildren, Emilia, Lily, Luke and Harper Wolter and Sela, Lucy, Joah and Samuel Bell; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; three brothers; two sisters and their spouses.
