OWATONNA — Marvin Duane Maas, age 81, of Owatonna, Minn., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at his home. Friends may greet the family from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, Owatonna, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 19, 1938, in Wayne, Neb., the son of Louie and Hilda (Runge) Maas. He was raised on a farm near Ringsted, Iowa. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended Jack Creek Country School through sixth grade, graduating from Ringsted High School. He attended Mankato Commercial College, graduating with an AAS degree in accounting.

Upon graduating, he worked in Owatonna, where he met and married Jeanne Gray. They later divorced, remaining good friends.

Marvin enjoyed traveling, collecting coins, eating Snickers and ice cream, playing cards and telling jokes to anyone who would listen, often carrying jokes with him in his wallet. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his former wife, Jeanne Maas of Owatonna; son, Michael Maas of Owatonna; daughters, Robin (Tim) Terrell of Waseca, and Lisa (Nathan) Ward of St. Clair; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Marcia (Larry) Boody, Maynard, Marlys (Walter) Black, and Murlaine Maas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Emma Ward.
