BLUE EARTH — Myrna Mae Pirsig (Louks), age 85, died peacefully, Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, with her family by her side. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, with Pastor Matthew Lorfeld officiating. Following the service, burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Myrna was born Jan. 17, 1934, in Guckeen, Minn., to Wilbur and Emma (Ficken) Louks. Myrna graduated from Stewartville High School in 1952. She then received her Bachelor of Science in teaching in 1956 from Mankato State College. She taught home economics, social science and sociology for five years in northern Minnesota at Bovey, Calument, Caleraine and Marble. During her summer breaks, she worked at Nodak Lodge on Lake Winnibigoshish where she met her husband, Edward Pirsig, in 1955. They later married on Feb. 4, 1961, and had two children, David and Debra.

Myrna worked for Blue Earth Schools for over 40 years, mainly as the athletic director’s secretary. She also worked countless hours running the concession stands, being the “copy lady,” washing uniforms, plus many other jobs, too numerous to name. Myrna loved her school and everyone in it. She found great joy taking care of the teachers and students.

Myrna is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edward; son, David; siblings, Phyllis (Don) Podein of Stewartville, Minn., Richard (Cecelia) of Stewartville, Minn., DuWayne Louks of Stewartville, Minn.; mother of her four grandchildren, Kristin Peterson; grandchildren, Emilie (Greg) Mahler of Hibbing, Minn.; Hayley (Blane) Maher of Northwood, Iowa, Jonah of Blue Earth, Minn., and Whitney of Blue Earth; and great-grandson, Tucker Maher.

Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Wilbur; daughter, Debra Pirsig; siblings, Marion Louks, Joyce Louks, Marilyn Ary; brother-in-law, Calvin Ary; and sister-in-law, Judy Louks.
