David William Dahl

HASTINGS — David William Dahl passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, in the presence of his family at his home in Hastings, Minn.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Rushford Lutheran Church, 101 S. Mill St., Rushford, Minn. Interment will be at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be sent to Rushford Lutheran Church or Mayo Hospice in Red Wing, Minn.

David was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Fairmont, Minn., to John William (J.W.) and Marie Katherine (Hendrickson) Dahl. David was baptized and confirmed at East Chain Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board and volunteered with the youth. As a child, David attended school in East Chain, graduating from East Chain High School in 1953. After graduation David joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in England. David loved to tell stories about his adventures in England and was proud of his work building the airport runway at Stansted Airport.

On Jan. 26, 1957, he began his biggest adventure when he married the love of his life, Janice Lorraine Powers. Together they had three children, Scott, Beth and Sandra; tended the family farm; and drove truck in winter. They had countless memorable adventures, including flying to Florida after David earned his pilot’s license, chaperoning the All-State Lutheran Choir European trip in 1979, riding the Harley Davidson, and weekends spent at the beach on East Chain Lake.

After retiring from farming, David and Janice enjoyed managing the Dakota County Campground. Some of their best memories include the 10 years they lived in their RV traveling the United States. As a snow bird in Florida, David enjoyed fishing, scuba diving and collecting orchids.

David will always be remembered as a man who knew a little something about everything and was always happy to share his stories.

David is survived by his loving wife, Janice; son, Scott (Lisa) Dahl; daughters, Beth Dahl and Sandra (Jerry Justice) Zezulka; grandchildren, Morgan (Adam) Kress, Joey (Katie) Zezulka, and James Zezulka; great-grandchildren, Kenny and Jethro Zezulka; many nieces, nephews and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred Dahl and Andrew Dahl; sisters, Henrietta Johnson, Signe Jorgensen and Joyce Greischar.
