FAIRMONT — A memorial service for Theodore H. Kuske, age 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at Shepherd of the Lakes Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairmont.

Theodore passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 13, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials are preferred to Martin Luther College Scholarship Fund or to the WELS Church Extension Fund.

Theodore Herbert Kuske was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Circle, Mont., the son of Pastor Paul and Leona (Zier) Kuske. Theodore was baptized on Feb. 1, 1931. He graduated in 1947 from Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, Minn. Theodore attained his undergraduate degree in 1951 from Northwestern College in Watertown, Wis., and later graduated in 1955 from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wis., with a Master of Divinity.

He worked as a high school instructor at Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, Mich., before his ordination/installation as pastor at Zion Lutheran Church of Broomfield Township and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Remus, Mich.

On May 10, 1959, Theodore was united in marriage to Elaine Strong at Zion of Broomfield Twp., Mich. This union was blessed with five children: Doris, Daniel, Stephen, Linda and Mark. The family resided in various locations where Theodore served in Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod congregations including Remus-Broomfield, Mich., Bloomington-Minneapolis, Minn., Cochrane-Cream-Buffalo City, Wis., Wonewoc, Wis., and Goodhue-Minneola, Minn.

After retiring from the ministry, Theodore worked 14 years as a custodian for Rochester, Minn., public schools.

He and Elaine were blessed with over 60 years together.

During his free time, Theodore enjoyed gardening, Sudoku puzzles, as well as reading historical books, theological books and journals, and current news magazines.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Elaine; daughter, Doris (Tony) Rosener and their son, Bradley; son, Daniel (Kathryn) Kuske; son, Stephen Kuske and his children, John, Joel, and Erika; daughter, Linda (Mark) Hughes and their children, Crystal and Seth; and son, Mark (Michelle) Kuske and their children, Daniel (Jessica), Kaitlyn (Micah) Bader, and Jonah; great-grandchildren, Belle, Dolores, and Emzara Kuske; siblings, Prof. Em. David (Gwenith) Kuske, Naomi (Frederick) Mahnke, Pastor Em. Norman (Mareolin) Kuske, and Philip Kuske; sister-in-law, Gladys Strong; nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Maynard Strong.
