SHERBURN — A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Jane Maday, 98, of rural Sherburn will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, with Father Jonathon Fasnacht as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, East Chain, Minn.

Betty was called to her eternal rest Tuesday morning, Sept. 24, 2019, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Betty Jane Wiltse was born April 17, 1921, in Lake Belt Township, rural Ceylon, Minn., to Wilbur and Bessie (Riddle) Wiltse. She received her education in East Chain Schools. Betty then attended Mankato Teacher College and was a rural country school teacher in District 5, 12 and 20 near East Chain.

On July 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to Ignatius Maday in Fairmont, Minn. After their marriage, they lived near East Chain until moving to rural Welcome.

Betty was employed as a school teacher for Welcome Public Schools.

After retirement from teaching, they moved to their home on the south side of Fox Lake. Betty was employed by Dave’s Home Plate and Rolling Green Fairways. They then moved to Goldfinch in Fairmont. After a stroke, she moved into Seasons Health Care in Trimont, Minn.

She greatly enjoyed cooking, walking, crocheting, reading and doing crosswords.

Betty was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and served on its parish council, a song leader, Charity Guild and CCW member.

She was also a member of Welcome American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president. She was secretary-treasurer for Martin County Council Fairmont VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Fairmont Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by her husband, Ignatius; son, Clarence “Butch” (Diane) Maday of rural Sherburn, Minn.; daughter, Diana Held of Idaho; four grandchildren, Brett (Kari) Maday and their son, Ethan of Colleyville, Texas, Heather (Bill) Kittridge of Otsego, Minn.; stepchildren, Willy Kittridge, Samantha Kittridge, Kelsea Schoer and son Liam and Preston Kittridge; Marcus (Julie) Maday of Eden Prairie, Minn., Steven (Jaime) Held and Mallory, Sophie and Bree of Bismarck, N.D.; sister-in-law, Adeline Simmons of Sherburn, Minn.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Leona and Aileen; great-grandson, Michael Ignatius Held; and other relatives.

It is requested that any memorials be sent to the Carl Nettifee Memorial Animal Shelter.
