Judith ‘Judy’ A. Balcom

FAIRMONT – Funeral service for Judith “Judy” A. Balcom, 80, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, at United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service in Sherburn City Cemetery in Sherburn, Minn.

Judy passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 29, 2019, at her home in Fairmont. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today, Oct. 2, 2019, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and continue one hour prior to the time of service at the church.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Judith “Judy” Ann (Montgomery) Balcom was born on April 5, 1939, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Dwight and Margaret (Musegades) Montgomery. She grew up in Sherburn and attended school in Sherburn, graduating with the class of 1957 from Sherburn High School.

On June 24, 1962, Judy was united in marriage to Lynnie Balcom at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn. Together the couple made their home in Fairmont and were blessed with four children: Jay, Jon, Jeff and Lynda.

Judy worked for a short time at 3M in Fairmont before deciding to take on the task of staying at home with her children, in addition to keeping books for Balcom Implement and assisting with the family farm operation. In her younger years, Judy also worked as a nanny for the Theobalds.

Family was extremely important to Judy and she loved following all the events that her children were involved in. As they grew older, she made sure not to miss out on a chance to support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After her husband passed away in 2007, Judy found joy in staying active and volunteering at the Eagles Club, attending aerobics at the United Methodist Church and having coffee with the gals. She loved music and looked forward to weekends filled with music from Steve Lang and Bob Petrowiak and listening to karaoke from Butch-Jo and Friends. Judy stayed active in the implement business and enjoyed attended the Minneapolis Moline shows. She was an avid bowler and was a faithful member of the Fairmont United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for many various duties. Judy will be remembered for her kind heart and her love of helping others. She will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jay (Mary) Balcom, Jon (Kathy) Balcom, Jeff Balcom, and Lynda (Rob) Stauter; 13 grandchildren, Becky Sharp, Lori (Tom) McInerney, Lisa (Jarret) Bock, Daniel Stauter, Matthew Balcom, Darren Balcom, Anna Balcom, Garrett Balcom, Ross Balcom, Rachel Stauter, Jayme Balcom, Emily Stauter, and Jenna Balcom; eight great-grandchildren, Zayne Sharp, Lynnie McInerney, Cooper Bock, Mason McInerney, Paisley Bock, Lydia Shumski, Hudson Bock, and Sage McInerney; sisters-in-law, Alice Barnes and Bev (Bob) Blazejak; brother, Charles (Angelica) Montgomery; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Margaret Montgomery; husband, Lynnie Balcom; brother, James Montgomery; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Marvin Balcom; brother-in-law, Don Barnes and a grandson-in-law, Shane Sharp.
