Lyle H. Jacobsen

SHERBURN — A Celebration of Life service for Lyle H. Jacobsen, 91, of Sherburn, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, with Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Sherburn Cemetery with military honors by Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post 356 and Sherburn Veterans of Wars Post 8261.

Lyle was called to his eternal rest Monday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2019, at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Lyle Herbert Jacobsen was born Oct. 16, 1927, near Dunnell, Minn., to Hugo and Maudie (Gettler) Jacobsen. He was baptized on Dec. 25, 1927, and later confirmed on May 17, 1942, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunnell. Lyle received his education in Dunnell schools. On Jan. 11, 1946, he entered the U.S. Navy serving until his honorable discharge on Nov. 20, 1947. He then returned to Dunnell and was employed at John Morrell’s in Estherville. On July 10, 1949, he was united in marriage to (Norma) Jane Hall at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell, Minn. After their marriage they lived in Dunnell where Lyle was in partnership with Reuben Petersen in the piano business in Dunnell and Spencer, Iowa. In 1960 they moved to Sherburn where Lyle was employed at Stan Eide Chevrolet in Sherburn, Pollards in Sherburn as a salesman, and served as an independent sales representative for Pat O’Shea and then was employed at Sherburn Industries until they moved to Minneapolis, making their home at The Crossings for 23 years. Lyle and Jane worked together as a care-taking team while Lyle expanded his love for work and conversation in security detail and finally, as a real estate salesman for Gittleman Management. In 2015 he retired and they moved back to Sherburn. Lyle was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn where he served as an Elder and was involved at of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell. While living in Minneapolis, he was active in Golden Valley Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Sherburn Fire and Ambulance Departments, served on the Sherburn School Board, was involved with the Sherburn Holiday Festival, member of Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post 356 of Sherburn, Sherburn V.F.W. Post 8261 and Sherburn Lions.

He is survived by his wife, “Norma” Jane Jacobsen of Sherburn; his eight children, Gary and Ann Jacobsen of Sherburn, Randall and Shalee Jacobsen of Santa Cruz, Calif., Anne and Pat Bedford of rural Sherburn, Mary and Vern Swanson of rural Sherburn, Elise Winter and Thad Heimendinger of Woodbury, Minn., David and Nichol Jacobsen of Woodbury, Jennifer and Tim Hall of Bloomington, Minn., Jeffrey and Patty Jacobsen of Menomonie, Wis.; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, David and Ruthie Hall of Kansas City, Mo.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Maudie Jacobsen; father and mother-in-law, Axel “Mac” and Irene Hall; grandchildren, Matthew Jacobsen, Victoria Hall; great-grandson, Levi Schwanz; son-in-law, Daniel Winter; brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” and Alice Hall; and other relatives.
