Julie Lee Wakey was born on July 29, 1955, in Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Willard and Irene (Pope) Wakey. Julie grew up in the Fairmont area with her three brothers and received her education while attending school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1973.

Following her graduation, Julie worked for a short time at Mahowald’s Hardware Store and also Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center. From there, she made the move to Texas, where she attended North Texas State University before returning to Minnesota and attending St. Catherine’s College and finally finishing her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Mankato State University in 1978.

Julie worked for a short time for Mankato State University at the College of Business as a secretary and also as a teacher’s aide at William Budd Elementary School in Fairmont. In May 1979, Julie returned to the heat of Texas, where she worked for the Xerox Corporation as an intern and later working for First National Bank in Dallas.

In 1985, Julie took a leave from work and has been retired since that time.

While in Texas, Julie met Robert Fields. Together they formed a special bond and were blessed to spend many years together, working on housing projects, traveling and just enjoying time together.

In her spare time, Julie enjoyed working in her garden and was a wonderful quilter, often sharing her beautiful work with those she cared about. She loved her family and treasured spending time with her nieces and nephews. Julie was a shepherd of God and found great joy in being a witness to him. She was a wonderful listener and would go out of her way to help others.

Left to cherish her memory is her longtime friend, Robert Fields of Texas; brothers, Tom Wakey and his wife, Avis, of Northrop, Minn., and their children, Angie Clark and her husband Perry, and their son, Perry Jr., Erin Wakey, Holly Wakey and Monica Pavich and her children, Lincoln and Charlie; brother, Phil Wakey and his wife, Brenda, of East Chain, Minn., and their children, LeAnn Erickson and her husband, Chris; Scott Wakey and his wife, Heree, and their children, Aliya and Alex; Amanda Morris and husband, Austin, and their son, Leo; five great-nephews and one great-niece; as well as many other extended family and friends.
