FAIRMONT — Memorial service for Robert “Bob” A. Ahlgren, age 78, of Fairmont, MN, will be 1 p.m. Aug, 10, 2019, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont, with inurnment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont immediately following services.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Robert passed away on Tuesday evening, July 23, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robert Arthur Ahlgren was born Jan. 1, 1941, in St. Cloud, Minn., eldest of nine children to Robert C. and Verle (Schmidt) Ahlgren. He graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School in 1959.

Bob married Judith Ann Bergstrom on Sept. 10, 1960. They had three children: Kimberly, Kelly and Robert Mark. Bob and Judy made their home in St. Cloud until moving to Fairmont, Minn., in 1970. Bob worked at Railway Motors-Harsco for many years in time study and international sales.

Generally, Bob wasn’t one to let grass grow under his feet. As a child, his family lived in California, Indiana and Minnesota. As an adult, he traveled the world with Harsco, landing on every continent but one. In retirement, he enjoyed trips to Arizona, Florida and many other places.

Bob was an avid sports fan. He took part in swimming, fishing, tennis and golf. He enjoyed watching sports and could give you the stats on virtually any player, on any team, at any time. Family is positive this had to do with all the ice cream and Oreos he consumed.

Bob is recently preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Judy; two brothers, Michael and Thomas; sister, Susan; brother-in-law, Lee Bergstrom; and companion Connie Snyder.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Kimberly (Randy) Nelson, Kelly McMaster, Robert M. (Michelle) Ahlgren; four grandchildren, Ryan (Elizabeth) Nelson, Jacob (Sammi) Horstman, Ian McMaster and Kate Ahlgren. His siblings, James (Mary Jo) Ahlgren, Jon (Toni) Ahlgren, Carol Gibbs, Julie (Bruce) Dupre and Terri Shelton. In-laws, Rosa (Michael) Ahlgren, Terry (Thomas) Ahlgren, Robert John (Sandie) Bergstrom, Gary (Gayle) Bergstrom and Susan (Lee) Bergstrom; and extended family and friends.
