FAIRMONT — Funeral services for Marjorie A. Mowery, 90, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in the Sherburn City Cemetery, Sherburn, Minn. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Marjorie passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, at her home in Fairmont.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marjorie Augusta (Handevidt) Mowery was born June 2, 1929, on the family farm in rural Jackson, Minn., the daughter of Andrew and Augusta (Grunst) Handevidt. She received her education attending school in Jackson and graduating from Jackson High School. Following graduation, Marjorie went on to receive her teaching certificate and, upon completion, taught at a country school south of Sherburn.

On July 1, 1949, Marjorie was united in marriage to John Mowery in Alpha, Minn. Together, the couple would make their home near Sherburn, where Marjorie continued teaching country school. Together, the couple would be blessed with two children, Nancy and Brian, and later moved to Fairmont.

Marjorie and John both had a passion for the game of golf and loved taking advantage of warm summer days to try their luck at lowering their handicaps. When not attempting the next great putt, Marjorie could be found with her friends circled around the table playing bridge and catching up on the latest happenings with each other.

Marjorie loved her family and cherished the opportunity to celebrate holidays and birthdays with her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful caretaker and made sure to be present with her son Brian as he struggled with health problems. Marjorie was a wonderful cook and will be fondly remembered for all her baked goods, especially her cookies.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Nancy Schwager and her husband, Bruce of Sherburn; sister, Luetta Siem of Minneapolis, Minn.; brother, Harlo Handevidt and wife, Mavis of Jackson, Minn.; grandchildren, Jennifer Ellis and her children, Stephanie and Katelyn; Sarah Fredrickson and her husband, Tom and their children, Drew and Braylon; Jaime Leiting and her husband, Corey and their son, Jones; Alyssa Johnson and her husband, Wesley and their children, Brooklyn, Izabelle, Maddisyn and Maverick; Alexa Mowery and fiancé, Zachery Carlson; as well as many other extended family and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; son, Brian Mowery; granddaughter, Alyson Jo; grandson, Steven Ellis; brother, J.A. Handevidt; and sister, Loretta Knudson.
