JACKSON — Rhonda Renee Sands, 52, of Jackson, Minn., passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at her residence in Jackson, Minn. A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Jackson, with Pastor Steve Dekok officiating.

Rhonda was born Dec. 2, 1966, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, daughter of Jerald and Sheryl (Walter) Fastenow. She was baptized at the Union Memorial Church in Milford, Iowa, and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. As a child she loved things that go, wearing the wheels out on numerous roller skates, tricycles and bicycles. Rhonda graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1985 and spent a year studying at the University of Northern Iowa before going on to earn her associate’s degree from Iowa Lakes Community College.

Rhonda lived briefly in Brooklyn Park, Minn., before moving back to Spirit Lake, where she worked at a drug and alcohol treatment center. She settled in Jackson in the late 1990s, working at SFI for a few years before being employed by Accent Insurance.

On June 10, 2000, Rhonda married Steve Sands and they followed up with karaoke in the park. The couple were blessed with their daughter Mikayla in 2001.

Rhonda enjoyed music and loved to sing. She appreciated animals, especially cats and dogs, and rode horses since childhood. She was a very devoted mother and her main passion was her daughter Mikayla.

Rhonda is survived by her parents, Jerry and Sheryl Fastenow of Spirit Lake, Iowa; ex-husband Steve Sands of Alpha, Minn.; daughter, Mikayla Sands of Jackson, Minn.; sister, Teresa (Don) Johnson of Spirit Lake; niece, April (Jake) Bosma; grand-niece Riley of Spirit Lake; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Rhonda was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ed and Ruth Walter and Jess and Lillian Fastenow; as well as her uncle, Jared Walter.
