FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Arnold J. Lemke, 92, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn., with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Arnold passed away Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials are preferred to the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center Building Project.

Arnold John Carl Lemke was born July 11, 1926, on the family farm in Tenhassen Township, Minn., the son of Ernest and Frieda (Bremer) Lemke. Arnold went to country school in Tenhassen Township and later attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church School in Wilbert, Minn.

On May 17, 1953, Arnold was united in marriage to Ruth Brammeier at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert. The couple resided on the Lemke family farm until moving to Maplewood in Fairmont in 2016. This union was blessed with five children: Steven, David, Douglas, Sharon and Daniel. Arnold and Ruth would have shared their 66th anniversary together on May 17.

Arnold worked as a farmer all his life. He also worked as an assembler of railroad maintenance equipment for Railway Motors and later for Greenlee and Harsco.

Arnold was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert, where he was active with the choir, school board, other various offices, as well as a trustee and an elder. He was also a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League and United Auto Workers.

Arnold was an avid Twins fan, he loved music and enjoyed singing barbershop quartet music. He most loved the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth Lemke, of Fairmont, Minn.; children, Steven (Shirley) Lemke of Brillion, Wis., David (Ellyn) Lemke of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Douglas (Kay) Lemke of Ceylon, Minn., Sharon (Tom) Ellrich of Roland, Iowa, Daniel (Jackie) Lemke of Madison Lake, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and step grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Ernest and Frieda Lemke, Arnold was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Daniel Lemke.
