Jim passed away Friday morning, March 29, 2019, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

James Thomas Barringer was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Thomas D. and Evelyn (Woolsey) Barringer. He attended school in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School. Following his graduation, Jim drove taxi for his uncle at Barringer Taxi. It was during this time that Jim would meet the love of his life, Arnetta “Fern” Kinnison. Jim and Fern were united in marriage on Sept. 28, 1952, and were blessed with 60 years of marriage. In 1957, Jim and Fern moved to Fairmont, Minn., and then to Omaha, Neb. Jim would then be offered a job as a USDA inspector and the family packed up once again and returned to Fairmont where they would raise two sons, Rod and Rick. Jim retired young at the age of 50, and after a short time, and the encouragement of his wife, he returned to the workforce, working for Fairmont Foods as a Label Consultant. Jim was a man of integrity and believed in working hard. He loved adventure and made many special memories with his family on trips to Hawaii, Yellow Stone and many other places. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Jim also enjoyed his trips to the casino to see what he could win. Family was especially important to Jim and he cherished spending time with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Rod Barringer and his wife, Jennifer of Fairmont, Minn., Rick Barringer and his wife, Jody of Prior Lake, Minn.; five grandchildren, Adam Barringer and his wife, Gina of Shakopee, Minn., Ashley Barringer of Minneapolis, Minn., Seth Barringer of Jordan, Minn., Ashlee Castano of Jordan, Megan Barringer of Des Moines, Iowa; four great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Archie Kinnison and his wife, Lois of Glendale, Ariz., Vernon Kinnison and friend, Sharon of Wiota, Iowa, Larry Kinnison and his wife, Lucia of Oakland, Iowa, Keith Kinnison and his wife, Denise of Iowa City, Iowa; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Evelyn Barringer; wife, Fern Barringer; sisters, Virginia Bolz and her husband, Ken, June Martin and her husband, Harry, Nancy Armstrong, and Joan Weirich; brothers, Bill Barringer and his wife, Connie, and Jerry Barringer.
