Dewey A. Hendricks

JACKSON — Dewey A. Hendricks, 86, died Sunday, June 24, 2018, at his residence. A gathering of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Osterberg Funeral Chapel in Jackson with military rites performed by the Jackson American Legion and VFW posts at 7 p.m. A private family burial will take place on Saturday.

Dewey Adam Hendricks was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Martin County, Minn., the son of Lubben and Elizabeth (Loos) Hendricks. He attended country school in Martin County.

After his education, he worked on his parents’ farm, at Stokeley’s and a creamery until entering the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Schrader Scale Service of Fulda Minn., building elevators around the area. While building the Jackson elevator, he was offered and accepted a job by Jackson Farmers Co-op Association.

He was united in marriage to Ina Vacura on March 29, 1952, in Fairmont, Minn. After marriage, they lived in Sherburn in two different houses that Dewey had built. They then moved to Jackson, first living in town, then on the edge of town, and finally moving to the farm south of Jackson in the mid-1960s. He farmed while working at the co-op until his son, Dary, took over the farming.

Dewey was still raising cattle until his death at the residence on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 27 days. Dewey was a very hard-working man. He worked for the FCA for over 53 years, raised cattle, baled hay, junked iron, and helped with the farming until his death.

Dewey was a very smart man and sometimes he didn’t say a lot, but when he did it was always interesting and insightful.

Dewey is survived by his 3 children, Dary (Leila) Hendricks, Debra (David) Schley, and Delane Hendricks; 7 grandchildren, DesaRae Maybee, Blake (Vanessa) Hendricks, Destiny Schley, Kyle (Meagan) Schley, Drew Hendricks, Tyler Hendricks and Katelyn Hendricks; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Virginia Weseman of Litchfield, Minn., Florine Brolsma of Sherburn, Minn., Diane McCollum of Minnetonka, Minn., and Patty Schooley of Coon Rapids, Minn.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ina who passed in 1995; as well as a brother, Donald Hendricks.

Blessed be the memory of Dewey Adam Hendricks.
