ARMSTRONG — Lauretta Walker, age 98, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, in the Social Hall at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, Iowa, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. A Celebration of Life and time of fellowship will follow the service 12:30 p.m. at Main Street Manor in Swea City.

Lauretta was born Dec. 30, 1919, on the family farm near Bowbells, N.D., to Jens Peter Neve and Anna Olson Neve.

She married Ralph “John” H. Walker Jr. on June 4, 1948, in Milford, Iowa, and lived on the Walker family farm near Swea City that was recognized as a Century Farm in 2003. She was employed by the Swea City Herald.

Lauretta was active in community affairs and many organizations throughout north-central Iowa. She enjoyed visiting with residents of neighboring care centers and sharing homemade Scandinavian treats.

Lauretta was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Swea City.

Lauretta is survived by daughters, Janet (Don) Hein of Iowa City, Iowa, Dori (Jim) Kostka of Northwood, Iowa; granddaughters, Sheri (Wade) Taylor of Ceylon, Minn., Angela Larimer of Iowa City, Iowa; great-granddaughters, Amanda (Jerit) Wohlford of Zumbrota, Minn., Bethany Taylor of Byron, Minn.; great-great-granddaughter, Dakota Wohlford; and great-great-grandsons, Aiden Wohlford, Ryker Wohlford, and Corbyn Iverson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph (John) Walker; daughter, Reta Farland; son-in-law, Lowell Farland; her parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.
