CEYLON — Lowell Alfred Farland, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at his home. To celebrate Lowell’s memory, a memorial lunch will be held 11 a.m. April 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Swea City, Iowa. The family asks that you bring your favorite memories and stories of Lowell to share with everyone.

Family graveside services will be held in rural Swea City. Henry-Olson Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements and cremation.

Lowell was born April 30, 1937, in rural Ceylon, Minn., son of Alfred and Grace (Schmidt) Farland. He grew up on a farm outside Swea City and graduated from Swea City High School in 1956. He attended Waldorf College in Forest City, then graduated from Mankato State University in Mankato. Lowell entered the U.S. Army and served from 1961-1964.

Lowell taught industrial arts at Ceylon Public School from 1966 to 1980. He worked for TG Industries from 1982 until retiring in 2007. On June 10, 1967, Lowell was united in marriage to Reta Mae Walker. After marriage, they moved to a farm outside Ceylon.

Survivors include: his daughter, Sheri (Wade) Taylor of Ceylon; two granddaughters, Amanda (Jerit) Wohlford of Zumbrota, Bethany Taylor of Byron; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Reid and Dale (Joan) Farland; mother-in-law, Lauretta Walker; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet (Donald) Hein, and Dori (James) Kostka; nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Reta; his parents; grandparents; aunts, uncles and five cousins.

Memorials can be made for woodcarving scholarships for local clubs.
