FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Peter Wilm Smidt, 94, of Fayetteville, formerly of Fairmont, Minn. and Lakota, Iowa area, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at his home in Fayetteville. Burial with military honors will take place in the National Cemetery in Fayetteville. A private memorial service will follow. Epting Funeral Home of Fayetteville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Peter Wilm Smidt was born March 3, 1923, in Ostfriesland, Germany, to Jasper and Berenje Smidt. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged.

Survivors include: his wife of 70 years, Patricia; his children, Jack Smidt of Buffalo Center, Iowa, David Smidt of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mark Smidt of Fayetteville, Mary Hillburg of Algona, Iowa, Lois Joy of Boone, Iowa, Phil Smidt of Lynnwood, Wash., Jared Smidt of Gig Harbor, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Jane Berschman of Buffalo Center, Iowa.
