FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Roger J. Subbert, 73, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be in the East Chain Evangelical Free Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Martin Co. VFW Post 1222 and the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36.

Roger passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 27, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Home in Jackson, Minn. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Thursday also at the funeral home.

Roger John Subbert was born April 21, 1944, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Anton “Tony” and Helen (Dreke) Subbert. Roger grew up in Fairmont and was a 1962 graduate of Fairmont High School. Right after high school, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country until his honorable discharge in May of 1965.

Roger returned to Fairmont and worked at Wallace’s Dept. Store.

On May 28, 1966, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Morris at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church. Roger and Jeanne had three children together, Shannon, Jason and Amy.

Roger worked at Peerless Cleaners and then sold cemetery monuments for many years. He also delivered and represented Tafco out of Blue Earth until his retirement.

Roger loved to help out his family and friends with whatever needed to be done. He enjoyed drag racing and working on cars with his sons. He served as a Boy Scout Leader and took his family camping and boating when his children were younger.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Subbert of Fairmont; three children, Shannon Subbert and his fiancée, Jodie, of Fairmont, Jason Subbert and his wife, Lois, of Fairmont, Amy Subbert and her fiancé, Kevin Zimmer, of East Chain; nine grandchildren, Steven, Dalton, Alison, Nathen, Lizzy, Landon, Logan, Hannah and Nathan; two sisters, Marcia Hoppe and her husband, Michael, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kathy Geraghty of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Ronald Tuin of Faribault, Minn.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Helen Subbert; one brother, Ron Subbert; granddaughter, Natalie Zimmer; and brother-in-law, Peter Geraghty.

Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
