FAIRMONT — Jane D. Johnson, age 96, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center. She was born Mary Jane Dahlgren on Feb. 7, 1921, in Cambridge, Minn., the daughter of Paul W. and Eda Dahlgren. After graduating from Cambridge High School, she attended Hamline University and graduated in 1942 with a business degree.

She worked at General Mills in Minneapolis until her marriage to Newton Johnson on May 5, 1945, in Cambridge. She and her husband lived in Hickory, North Carolina, until April 1948 when they moved to Fairmont, where Newt joined Leo J. Seifert in the practice of law.

She joined Grace Lutheran Church in 1949 and was active in church activities including president of GLCW-Grace Lutheran Church Women. She was also a long-time member and president of P.E.O. and Interlaken Women’s Golf Association. Jane also volunteered at the Fairmont Hospital Auxiliary and the Fairmont Opera House stagehands.

Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandparent and sister. She had many friends and enjoyed making new friends. She played bridge and golf in Fairmont and Oro Valley, Ariz., where she and her husband spent their winters beginning in 1984.

She also loved to sew, knit and do needlework. Her love of flowers showed in the beautiful garden she tended each summer. Jane created a beautiful home that always felt welcoming to those who entered and were greeted by her big smile and the smells of her delicious home cooking.

Those left to cherish her memory include: son, Bruce (Sue); daughter, Marilee Wandke (Joe); son, Todd (Amy); grandchildren, Dana, Brett, John, Laura, Eric and Leah; great-grandchildren, Jack and Emma Jane; and brother, Paul.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Newt; parents, Paul and Eda; brother, Clark; infant daughter; and infant granddaughter.

A service celebrating the lives of Newt and Jane will be held at a later date in the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center chapel in Fairmont. Burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, North Branch.
