Jerald ‘Jerry’ D. Berndt

FAIRMONT – A memorial service for Jerald “Jerry” D. Berndt, 73, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.

Jerry passed away on Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jerald Dean was born Nov. 10, 1942, in Galena Township, Martin County, Minn., to Charles and Inez (Augst) Berndt. He attended St. James Lutheran School in Northrop, Minn., and Blue Earth Public Schools in Blue Earth, Minn. On Nov. 29, 1968, he was united in marriage to Deanne Senne in Watertown, S.D., and made their home together in Fairmont, Minn. This union was blessed with three children: John, Tamra and Christina.

Jerry worked for many years as a forklift mechanic and retired in 2005. He was a member of the Fairmont Eagles Club and the Martin County Conservation Club. Jerry enjoyed restoring antique cars, fishing, and hunting for deer, geese, duck, pheasant, bear and moose. He was always happy to spend time with Deanne, his best friend and wife. The two of them especially enjoyed going for rides in his ’66 Mustang Convertible that he restored. Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Deanne of Fairmont; children, John (Nita) Berndt of Fairmont, Tamra Berndt of Fairmont, and Christina (Dale) Davis of Rake, Iowa; grandchildren, Leather Berndt, Maura (Adrian) Rasmussen, Joshua Abel, Megan Davis, and Samantha Davis; brother, Robert (Joyce) Berndt of Blue Earth, Minn.; sisters, Shirley Weber of Deerwood, Minn., and Diana (John) Riebel of Cambridge, Minn.; aunt, Mabel Tessmer of Stillwater, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Janet (Greg) Larsen of Cokato, Minn., Wanda (Joe Radgowski) Senne of Acworth, Ga.; longtime friends, Jerry and Lori Homsey and Jim Wolf; numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Inez Berndt; step-parents, Sid Liebric and Jim Nelson; a brother in infancy; and mother-and-father in-law, Dorothy and Willard Senne.
