Bountiful waters bode well for FLF fishing tournament

FAIRMONT – Weather conditions and early reports from fishers point to a busy day on the lakes as the Fairmont Lakes Foundation hosts their spring fishing tournament on Saturday, May 16. This year, walleye and pan fish are the fish of competition. The fish are weighed on a certified scale donated by Avery Weigh-Tronix. They can only be caught on one of the four connected lakes in Fairmont, excluding Amber Lake. While the bag limit has changed on yellow bass from 30 to 100, they have not been reintroduced this year. GPAC talks upcoming events

FAIRMONT— The Greater Plaza Area Council (GPAC) met on Wednesday to talk about some events, both new and tried and true, that are coming to Downtown Plaza in the coming months. One of the new events coming to Downtown Plaza is Vault the Plaza, which is being spearheaded by Crystal Hanson of the Fairmont Track Association. School board finalizes teacher contracts

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont School Board approved the two-year contracts for teachers at its meeting on Tuesday. The agreements cover several changes, of which Board Chair Nicole Green touched on a few. “There is a 2.25 percent increase in teacher salary schedule for the 2026-27 school year,” she said. “We also have added a doctoral degree provision language to the contract, a $2,500 annual stipend.” Other changes include a late resignation penalty of $1,500 after July 1 and $2,500 after August 1, an art show stipend of $1,500 and an adjustment of provided leave days to 17 ESST ...
