Youth to celebrate National 4-H Week

FAIRMONT — Every year, National 4-H Week sees millions of youth, parents, volunteers, and alumni come together to celebrate the many positive youth development opportunities offered by 4-H. The theme for this year’s National 4-H Week, #Opportunity4All, is a campaign that was created by the National 4-H Council to rally support for 4-H youth development and identify solutions to eliminate the opportunity gap that affects 55 million kids across America.

With so many children struggling to reach their full potential, 4-H believes that young people, in partnership with adults, can play a key role in creating a more promising and equitable future in communities across the country. In 4-H, youth in grades K-13 participate in a learn-by-doing model. This allows them to design and participate in their own programs and activities, which teaches essential, transferable skills that they’ll use throughout their lives. Youth establish goals and work towards becoming competent, productive citizens.

Sarah Fisher, Martin County 4-H Ambassador, remarks that 4-H, “teaches me skills for the real world. My favorite part about 4-H is learning how to become a better leader.”

There are 263 4-H youth and 110 volunteers from the community involved in Martin County 4-H programs. In Martin County, this includes community clubs, project workshops, Afterschool Adventures, and county programs, such as the Ambassadors (Youth Leadership), Performing Arts Project Club, and Shooting Sports & Wildlife. If you’re interested in learning more about these and other 4-H programs, please contact their office at (507) 235-3341 or email gaals001@umn.edu.
