Mayo to relocate virus testing

FAIRMONT — Because of an increase in demand, Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont will relocate its COVID-19 testing location from Urgent Care to the main hospital entrance, effective 10 a.m. today. The testing location is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

“We will continue to evaluate the testing volumes to determine where testing will take place in the future,” said Amy Long, administrator of Mayo-Fairmont. “As we move into fall and winter, weather conditions also may affect the testing location.”

The hospital entrance is on the south side of the medical center. Patients referred for testing can enter off Johnson Street and follow signs to the testing location. Patients will drive under the canopy, where a staff member will administer the test. Patients should not exit their vehicles. There is no charge for the test.

Those who need a COVID-19 test may call the Mayo Clinic COVID-19 Nurse Line at (507) 293-9525. To speak to your provider, call Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont at (507) 238-8500.

The quickest way to obtain test results is through Patient Online Services. Those who do not have a Patient Online Services account may call (877) 858-0398.

Pedestrian killed in hit and run

MAPLEWOOD (AP) — Police in the Twin Cities metro are looking for the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian. The victim was killed Saturday night while walking along a street in Maplewood.

Police Lt. Brian Bierdeman said Sunday low lighting and a wooded driveway may have contributed to the crash. First responders tried saving the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the Star Tribune reported.

Authorities say the victim was in his 20s, but he has not been identified.

A passerby told police that a second vehicle, a black car, pulled over briefly before leaving the scene. Someone in that car might have seen the vehicle that hit the man, police said.

Motorcyclists killed in rear-ender

CLOVER TOWNSHIP (AP) — Two people are dead after a teenage driver crashed into the back of their motorcycle in Pine County.

The Minnesota State Patrol said 66-year-old Jerry McDowell and 61-year-old Sharon McDowell, of Pine City, died at the scene of the crash on Highway 48 in Clover Township Sunday afternoon.

The patrol says the couple slowed down to make a turn off the highway and were struck by a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old boy. He was not injured.
