1 dead in Maple Grove shooting

MAPLE GROVE (AP) — Police in Maple Grove say a man has been fatally shot and another man is in custody.

The shooting happened Sunday about 7 p.m.

Officers responding to a call about the shooting went to the scene and found a man who had died. Another man was arrested at the scene.

Police said the shooting is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community. The shooting remains under investigation.

Man arrested in series of assaults

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis police say they’ve arrested a man for a series of sexual assaults that occurred from 2013 until just last month. The attacks occurred mainly in neighborhoods near the University of Minnesota.

The 34-year-old Ham Lake man was arrested at an Anoka County home Friday and booked on probable cause charges of rape and burglary. Police said that criminal charges will be filed in the next few days and weeks.

Sanford tries plasma treatment for COVID-19

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sanford Health says a critically ill patient has received a transfusion of plasma from a recovered coronavirus patient, the first use of the therapy by the health care provider.

Sanford’s treatment is part of a national clinical trial to test the effect of blood plasma in treating COVID-19. The use of plasma is for hospitalized patients with severe cases of coronavirus. The plasma may lessen severity or shorten the length of the illness caused by the virus.

“This is another step forward in our efforts to find effective treatments for this virus,” said Dr. Allison Suttle, chief medical officer for Sanford Health.

Man arrested in woman’s disappearance

MOORHEAD (AP) — Police have arrested a Moorhead man on suspicion of murder in the disappearance of a 19-year-old woman.

The 27-year-old man is jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder. Dystynee Avery of Moorhead was last seen in south Moorhead on April 3, police said.

Investigators believe foul play was involved in her disappearance. Police said there is no threat or danger to the public.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office are assisting Moorhead police in the investigation. The investigation continues.
