FAIRMONT -- Set sail with Fairmont High School (FHS) Cardinal Theater as they present their 2026 fall musical production, the 1934 classic, "Anything Goes."

"We are always excited to bring a show to the school and community. It is the culmination of many hours of work, and we look forward to the performance," said Director Sara Gudahl.

Across the acting cast, stage crew and pit band, 93 students in grades 7 to 12 are participating in this production.

"We love having so many students experiencing theater and sharing their talents," Gudahl remarked.

Rehearsals, which are wrapping up, have been smooth sailing.

"We have been working on the show for more than two months. It has been going great," Gudahl shared.

"Anything Goes", written by P.G. Wodehouse, Guy Bolton, Howard Lindsay, Russel Crouse, Timothy Crouse and John Weidman, follows farce and comedic scenarios among passengers aboard the S.S. American ocean liner as it coasts from New York to London, featuring jazz and pop songs, "Anything Goes," "You're the Top," "I Get a Kick Out of You," and more tunes by Cole Porter.

"We wanted a show that played to the strengths of our cast, and we also wanted to showcase a classic this year," Gudahl explained when asked what inspired the selection. "'Anything Goes' has been featured in several revivals and won six Tony Awards. The score was written by Cole Porter and many of the songs from this show became jazz standards that audiences will recognize."

Gudahl shared that FHS Cardinal Theater is interested in taking on classics for forthcoming productions.

"We are always looking at bringing shows that highlight different aspects of musical theater, both classic and contemporary," she said.

Looking ahead, FHS Cardinal Theater hopes audiences get a kick out of the performances.

"This show is a true comedy," Gudahl said. "It has several different storylines that are tangled together, including star-crossed lovers, characters in disguise, a gangster avoiding capture and more. This show highlights the acting skills of our cast members and gives us a chance to be silly and funny."

Performances will be at 12:30 p.m. as a free matinee for senior citizens on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12 and Friday, Nov. 13, and at 1 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the FHS Performing Arts Center. Doors open 30 minutes before performance times. Tickets cost $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and are free for students. Annual passes will be accepted and tickets can be purchased at the door.

"This show has something for everyone. Audiences will enjoy the classic showtunes, entertaining dance numbers and a story that will keep them laughing. We hope you can join us," Gudahl said.
