Sherburn Theatre to show ‘9 to 5’

CEYLON -- A Cribbage Tournament will begin with registration at 1:15 p.m. today, Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Welcome Legion Hall. The tournaments are on the second and third Saturdays from October to March. Join the afternoon of fun. All cribbage players are welcome.

The Sherburn Theatre has installed the server they needed, and will show the restored movie, "9 to 5" at 7 p.m. tonight, Saturday, Oct. 10, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11. Disney re-released it in tribute to Dolly Parton.

Lake Promenaders Square Dance group will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 804 1st Street in Welcome. Watchers and dancers are welcome.

American Red Cross blood drives will be on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on Oct. 19 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont. Blood is urgently needed, so give if you are able.

Condolences to the families of Lois Thiesse (Vernon) and Robert Meyer, who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and friends.

Coffee Hours are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays in October at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship. There are three more Coffee Hours meetings.

Coffee Lovers meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Thursday in the banquet room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. All are welcome to join.

On Oct. 13 the Ceylon Bible Study group will meet at the home of Pat Walter at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Reimers will lead the discussions. On Thursday October 15 the Basic Bible Teachings Bible Study group will meet at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wilbert at 6 p.m. Pastor Hagen will lead that group. All area residents are welcome to join these Bible study groups.

The Ceylon City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Public comments and questions will be accepted at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact City Hall prior to the meeting at (507) 632-4653 or in person.

Schools are not in session for the MEA days on Oct.15 and 16.

Martin Luther High School in Northrop will have its annual fall rummage and bake sale Oct. 15-17. This is usually a huge sale with many bargains.

The Helping Hands of Ceylon will distribute the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf food boxes from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 20 at 209 North West Street in Ceylon. Those who have signed up should pick up their box.

The Helping Hands of Ceylon will have a Trunk and Treat event from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24, on Main Street in Ceylon. There will be other activities and lunch. Sign-up to pass out candy.

CREST's Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 21, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. An attorney will explain how to afford and plan long term care. RSVP to CREST at (507) 236-7850 for a lunch count. These programs are free to senior citizens from Martin County. CREST appreciates free-will donations.

CREST's Grief Support Group has been formed and the meetings are at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. The next meeting is on Oct. 27.

The Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon will host karaoke and a costume contest at 9 p.m. on Oct. 31. They will have line dancing from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 21.
