Sherburn Nursery supplies variety of goods

SHERBURN-- Sherburn Nursery and Floral has had a presence in the community for decades and under new ownership the past few years, the store has been able to expand its offerings.
"We took over in April of 2024," said owner Brittany Anderson. "With it being a small area we heard it may be coming up and it was listed and my husband and I saw this opportunity. We thought, 'we can't have another small business leave Sherburn.' One thing lead to another and we decided to take a chance on it and take over the business."
As was offered in the past, the business offers full landscape design, planning and installation. The landscape services range from a refresh to spring and fall clean up to full-blown paver patios, retaining walls and anything big or small that can be done landscape-wise.
Anderson said they have a variety of shade trees, shrubs, perennials and anything needed plant-wise and that they also sell annuals during the spring months.
She said some people come and shop to fill a pot or two but that Sherburn Nursery also does multiple pots for area businesses in and around the county.
They have two full-time staff and one part-time staff and Brittany and her husband fill in where needed. They also bring in a summer crew to help with landscaping.
In addition to the nursery, a wide range of gifts and decor are also offered.
"We ended up remodeling the whole gift shop inside to make it a nicer boutique. We brought a bunch of different new lines, which range from devotional journals to lotions and candles. We've also got some clothing lines, home decor, holiday decor and some snack and food things," Anderson said.
She said they really had a goal of bringing in some unique gift ideas and other items so that people in town wouldn't need to go out of the community to get what they need, whether it's for themselves or friends or whoever.
The gift shop also always has a stock of house plants and a pretty big selection of sympathy gifts.
"We've been continually bringing in new lines into the gift shop side to give people variety when they're shopping," Anderson said.
In addition to outdoor shrubs, landscaping and the gift store, Sherburn Nursery also does florals for funerals and weddings and then there are special events like Mother's Day and Valentine's Day to keep the floral side of the business busy.
Currently, for fall flowers, there are mums, purple fountain grass, pepper plants and other varieties of fall flowers for planters.
"Right now we have fall decor and a whole slew of winter decor. That's my secret obsession-- I love Christmas decorations. We have a lot of fun stuff we're bringing in," Anderson said.
When the time comes the business will have Christmas trees and holidays greens.
"We do porch pot classes, but we also sell porch pot bundles and we partner with a couple area organizations that do fundraisers," Anderson explained.
In addition, they do winter green placements for some of the area cemeteries.
Anderson gets a lot of joy from all that they're able to offer to the community.
"The community side is important to us. We really believe in supporting the community and the people that we're around every day. That's a huge driver for us, honestly a big part of why we wanted to purchase the business in the first place," Anderson said.
