Chest drive underway in Sherburn

SHERBURN -- CREST Lunch and Learn program for Martin County seniors will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Please call (507) 235-3833 prior to the program date for a lunch count. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Sherburn Legion Hall. The menu includes a burger, salad and beans. Steak Night will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Sherburn Legion. The menu includes ribeye, shrimp or smoked pork chop with salad and baked potato. The Sherburn Legion will meet at 7 p.m. on Oct. 13. All members are encouraged to attend,

American Red Cross blood drives will be today, Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Truman Public School, on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on Oct. 19 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont. Blood is urgently needed, so give if you are able.

The Annual Sherburn Community Chest Drive is underway and

will continue until Oct. 31. Donations may be mailed to Sherburn Community Chest at PO Box 504, Sherburn, MN 56171 or dropped off at Bank Midwest in Sherburn. Thank you for a generous donation to help the community projects.

Condolences to the family of Stacey Erickson, who passed away recently. He will be missed by family and many friends.

Coffee Hours are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in October, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. October is the last month for Coffee Hours. Thank you to all the groups that sponsored them during the summer and fall. Join friends and neighbors for a good cup of coffee and great fellowship.

The Football Coaches and the Vikings are sponsoring a Honor the Military night at the Oct. 9 football game in Trimont vs St. James. Veterans will be admitted free and be recognized. The St. John Lutheran Youth Group will have a tailgate food opportunity. They will serve a pork patty or hotdog, chips and cookie with water for $10. The football team will have games on Oct. 14 at USC and on October 20 at Trimont vs Cleveland. The Volleyball team from MCW recently had a Cancer Night (Oct. 4) and raised more than $15,000 to help Cancer patients and families. The FLASC organization will help distribute money to families needing help. There is a form on Facebook that can be turned in to ask for help. The volleyball games coming up are on Oct. 8 at Cleveland and on Oct. 12 at Trimont vs Blue Earth and on Oct. 13 at Sleepy Eye all the games are at 7 p.m. Good luck Mavericks.

The Civic and Commerce Club have benches to put in the park that will be sturdier and nicer than the wooden ones. They are steel and an individual business or group may purchase a bench for $600 since there are some grants to help with the rest of the price. info@sinnfuneralhome.com . Memorials will be given first priority. The club has a political forum on Oct. 27 at the Sherburn Theatre at 7 p.m. They have invited the candidates for Mayor, City Council, and MCW School Board along with the Martin County Sheriff.

The Lions will have a Fill the Shelves Food Drive on Oct. 26. Please bring nonperishable food and non-food items to the Sherburn Legion’s north door from 5 to 6 p.m. The Lions will have a fundraiser to help the Healing Hearts Recovery House in Sherburn on November 8 with a Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Sherburn High School Cafeteria. Plan now to attend.

St. John Lutheran Church has several events coming up. On Oct. 18 they will have their annual Make a Difference Day and after the 8 am service there will be opportunities to make some items to help area groups. On Oct. 25 they will have their annual service to the community members day. Small groups will help do some small jobs for community members.

Congratulations to Bev Roben, who will be 90 years old. There will be an open house celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24, at St. John Lutheran Church. Our wish is for many more years.
