Fall schedule at area churches

WELCOME -- We are in the month of October already.

Area churches have fall schedule changes. The Circle of Faith Parishes will have Sunday services at 9 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Trimont and 10:30 a.m. services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome during October. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will begin their fall schedule at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, and will continue through December. St. Paul Community Church in Welcome will have Sunday School at 8:30 a.m. and services at 9:30 a.m. St. John Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have 8 a.m. services and 10:30 a.m. services and their partner church St. Paul Wilbert will have 9:30 a.m. services. All are welcome to join these congregations for services.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s invites all to join them for lunch and fellowship at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, at Pizza Ranch in Fairmont. Membership in the club or at St. John’s is not required.

Coffee Hours are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in October, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship for one more month.

The Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at City Hall. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact City Clerk Jodi Hemann at (507) 728-8740 or in person at City Hall prior to the meeting date.

Condolences to the family of Stacey Erickson, who passed away recently. He will be remembered by relatives and many friends.

CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Please call (507) 235-3833 prior to the program date for a lunch count.

The Welcome Burn Site will be open for Welcome residents only from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Bring wood, branches, tree trimmings, and grass clippings that are six inches in diameter or smaller. Any metal or garbage is prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation. The city would like to remind citizens to mow grass toward the lawn not discharged into the gutter since that plugs the storm sewer.

American Red Cross blood drives will be on Oct. 7 at Truman Public School, on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on Oct. 19 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont. Call 800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767), visit www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment or get further information about blood drives in the area. Blood is urgently needed, so give if you are able.

In Upcoming Events:

Cribbage tournaments will begin with registration at 1:15 p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 at the Welcome Legion Hall. Registration dues are all paid back in prizes. All area cribbage players are welcome to join the afternoon of fun. Contact Joel Detert for further information.

Welcome Clean Up Day for Welcome residents will be from 8 a.m. to whenever the truck is full on Saturday, Oct. 10. Bring items to Campbell Street, behind the Fire Hall. Check out the prohibited items on the list. This is a good time to get rid of some ordinance violation items for free.

Lakes Promenaders will have square dancing on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 804 West 1st Street in Welcome .

Heritage Acres Fall Festival is on Oct. 18.

Pumpkin carving for children will be at 1 p.m. at the Welcome Legion Hall on Oct.24. Pumpkins and some carving kits will be available. Please RSVP by calling or texting (507) 236-0965 to make sure there are enough pumpkins ready.

CREST Grief Support Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. This is for anyone in a grief journey from a loss. Experienced counselors will be present.
