CEYLON -- Area churches are in the news. There will be no services at St. Paul Lutheran in Wilbert on Sunday, Sept. 27, as the congregation will attend their partner church, St. John Lutheran in Sherburn. St. John will have a combined voters’ meeting to call a new pastor after the 8 a.m. service at about 8:45 a.m. St. John will have a 10:30 a.m. service after Sunday School sessions. St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will have services tonight, Saturday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. They will switch to their fall schedule and host Sunday services at 10:30 a.m. from October to December. The Circle of Faith parishes will have 9 a.m. services at Waverly Lutheran Church in Trimont and 10:30 a.m. services at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon this Sunday. In October, the 9 a.m. service will be at First Lutheran Church in Trimont and a 10:30 a.m. service will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have 10 a.m. services on Sunday and on Monday at 10:30 a.m. they will have a Senior Brunch and a 104-year celebration for their church with albums of memories displayed. St. Paul Community Church in Welcome will have 8:30 a.m. Sunday School and 9:30 a.m. services. All are welcome to join these churches for services.
"Perfect Sundays", sponsored by local FFA and families, will be shown at 7 p.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 26 and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Sherburn Theatre. It is a six-part limited television series that addresses farmer mental health and suicide prevention. The first part of the series will be shown at the Sherburn Theatre and attendees will receive a code to stream the rest of the series.
The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 804 West 1st Street in Welcome. Dancers and watchers are welcome. Lessons are available. If planning to attend, contact Cheryl at (507) 236-0255. Cheryl says this is for the whole family and if you can walk, you can square dance.
The Memory Cafe, a free support group for caregivers or family members of dementia patients, will meet at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn.
The last Coffee Hours for September will be on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at St. Paul Community Church in Welcome. Coffee Hours from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays in October will be at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship.
Coffee Lovers meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Thursday at the back room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Everyone from the area is welcome to join.
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wilbert has started a Bible Study, “The Basics,” which will meet at 6 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. American Red Cross blood drives will be on Oct. 7 at Truman Public School, on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on Oct. 19 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont. Blood is urgently needed, so give if you are able.

A Lutheran Women Missionary League (LWML) mission gathering in Truman at St. Paul’s Church at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 4. The speaker will be Martin Luther High School Principal David Stuckwisch.
St. Paul LWML at Wilbert will have their monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 8.
Oct. 15 and 16 are MEA. No school.
Cribbage Tournaments will begin with registration at 1:15 p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 10 and Oct. 17, at the Welcome Legion Hall.
The Helping Hands of Ceylon will organize a Trunk and Treat event from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24, on Main Street in Ceylon. Join them and pass out candy. They will also serve tacos in a bag, drinks and cookies. Contact them at (507) 236-7850 and join them for a fun Halloween event for area children.
Helping Hands of Ceylon also organizes the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf food box distribution in Ceylon. Call (507) 236-7850 by Oct. 8 to check out the income guidelines and sign up for delivery, which will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 20. Sign-up is required each month.
Sept. 22 was the first day of autumn and that reminds us to be especially careful near school locations, bus stops and during harvest. Have a safe autumn season.
