WELCOME -- The last Trimont Farmers Market is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 25, at Anderson Park in Trimont. There will be vendors, activities and a lunch including Swedish meatballs, scalloped potatoes, salads and bars available for purchase. The Welcome Burn Site will be open only for Welcome residents from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 28. Please bring only wood that is six inches in diameter or smaller, tree trimmings, and grass clippings. Garbage is prohibited.
The combined congregations of St. John in Sherburn and St. Paul in Wilbert will have services at Sherburn (no service in Wilbert) on Sunday, Sept. 27, and after the 8 a.m. service there will be a voter’s meeting to call a new pastor at 8:45 a.m. St. John will also have a 10:30 a.m. service after Sunday School.
St. Luke Catholic Church in Sherburn will have Saturday 5 p.m. service on Saturday, Sept. 26, and then in October they will be switching to the Fall schedule and have services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. from October to December.
The Sherburn Theatre will show a movie entitled Perfect Sundays sponsored by the Sherburn FFA and a local family. This is the first of six episodes and participants will receive a code to see the other five episodes by streaming them. The movie is about farmer mental health and suicide prevention. The show times are 7 p.m. tomorrow and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 804 West 1st Street in Welcome. Dancers and watchers are welcome. Lessons are available. Contact Cheryl at (507) 236-0255 before coming. Square dancing is family friendly and for all ages.
The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will have a Senior Brunch to celebrate the 104 years that the church has been in service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28. There will be photo albums to see. Plan to attend.
Condolences to the families of Eva “Jane” Rose, Howard “Zeke” Sloneker and Dan Harris, who were former Welcome residents who passed away recently. They will be missed by family and friends.
The last Coffee Hours for September will be on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at St. Paul Community Church in Welcome. Coffee Hours from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays in October will be at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship.
The Martin County West Schools will celebrate their Homecoming this week and culminate with a football game tonight, Sept. 25, at Trimont vs Lester Prairie. The Senior Class will have a Chili supper tailgate event. The Football team will have an Oct. 2 game at Winthrop at 7 p.m. and
an Oct. 9 game at Trimont vs St. James that will honor the military and have a tailgate from St. John’s Youth group. The Volleyball team will have a September 28 game at GFW at 7 p.m. and a home game on October 1 vs Fairmont at 7 p.m. Good Luck Mavericks. The MEA break is scheduled for Oct. 15 and 16 with no school those days.
Cribbage tournaments will be on Oct. 10 and 17 at the Welcome Legion Hall beginning at 1:15 p.m. with registration. They plan to have the tournaments on the second and third Saturdays each month from October to March. Join the afternoon of fun. The registration is paid out as prizes.
Welcome Clean Up Day will be on Oct. 10, with a truck behind the Fire Hall. This is for Welcome residents only. Check out the list of items accepted. This is a good opportunity to get rid of things that may be an ordinance violation for free.
American Red Cross blood drives will be on Oct. 7 at Truman Public School, on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont, on Oct. 19 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont. Blood is urgently needed, so give if you are able.
The Memory Cafe, a free support group for caregivers or family members of dementia patients, will meet at 3 p.m. at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn.
Tuesday, Sept. 22, was the first day of fall. Please be extra careful when driving near schools and when following farm machinery on roads in the area. Farmers be careful when working in the field and in bins. Have a safe fall season.
