CEYLON -- A ladies group Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Mini Retreat will be at 11:30 a.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 12, at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township, with a salad luncheon. The speakers will be Curtis and Cheri Frank from the Healing Hearts Recovery House in Sherburn. The Gifts from the Heart will be for the recovery house. Area women are welcome to join.
Sunday has special events planned. The Circle of Faith parishes are meeting at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon at 9 a.m. for services. There will be just one service that day. Then some members will work with the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf, helping do the God’s Work-Our Hands project. Usual September services are scheduled for 9 a.m. at Waverly Lutheran Church in Trimont and 10:30 a.m. services at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon for the month of September. St. John Lutheran in Sherburn will have an 8 a.m. service and will have a special service at 10 a.m. at Everett Park by Fox Lake followed by games and an egg bake brunch. St. Paul Lutheran in Wilbert will have 9:30 a.m. services. St. Paul Community Church in Welcome will begin their Sunday School on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 8:30 a.m. and have a service at 9:30 a.m. Area residents are welcome to join these congregations for services.
Happy 90th birthday to two Ceylon area women, Shirley Schmidt and Verdane Erdman, on Sunday, Sept. 12. Our wish is for many more birthdays for both of you. Congratulations.
Friendship Club, originating at St. John Lutheran in Sherburn, will meet at noon on Monday, Sept. 14, at The Ranch restaurant in Fairmont. Area friends are welcome to join them. Membership in the club or at St. John’s is not required. Enjoy lunch and fun with this group.
CREST Lunch and Lean will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. A lunch will follow the program. These are free to senior citizens from Martin County. CREST does appreciate a free-will donation.
Coffee Hours are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in September, at St. Paul Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for a good cup of coffee, treats and great fellowship for a free-will donation.
American Red Cross blood drives will be on Sept. 21 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, on Oct. 7 in Truman, on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont. Cribbage tournaments will be on Saturdays, Oct. 10 and 17 at the Welcome Legion Hall, beginning at 1:15 p.m. with registration. Plans are made to have the cribbage tournaments the second and third Saturday each month until March.
The Helping Hands of Ceylon are organizing a Trunk and Treat event for the area children’s Halloween Fun from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24 on Main Street in Ceylon. Call (507) 236-7850 if interested in joining the group to pass out your candy that day.
