Welcome Burn Site open Saturday

WELCOME -- Today, 25 years ago, the world vowed to never forget. Remember the flights, towers and Pentagon attacks.

The burn site in Welcome will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 12. Please bring wood, grass clippings, tree trimmings that are six inches in diameter. This is for Welcome residents only. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sunday, Sept. 13, is scheduled for a combined service for the Circle of Faith parishes at ST. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon at 9 a.m. Then some parishioners will go to the Heaven’s Table Food Shelf and help them with work needed there. What a good idea. September 13 is also the date St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome will start their Sunday School at 8:30 a.m. and have services at 9:30 for the congregation. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have an 8 a.m. service and there will be a 10 a.m. service at Everett Park with a brunch of egg bake to follow. Members are reminded to bring their lawn chairs and a friend. St. John’s Friendship Club will meet September 14 at the Ranch restaurant in Fairmont at noon. Area residents are welcome to join them for lunch and fun. Membership at St. John’s is not required.

There is an LWML mini retreat today (Sept. 12) at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township beginning with a salad luncheon at 11:30 a.m. The speakers are Curtis and Cheri Frank from the Healing Hearts Recovery House in Sherburn. The public is welcome. Gifts from the Heart will be given to the house in Sherburn.

The Lake Promenaders square dancing group will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 804 1st Street in Welcome. Watchers and dancers are welcome. Lessons can be arranged. Call Cheryl for more information at (507) 236-0255 or come and see what it is all about. Cheryl says if you can walk you can square dance.

The Welcome Legion will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Legion Hall. All members are urged to attend.

Coffee Hours are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in September, at St. Paul Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for a good cup of coffee, treats and great fellowship.

The Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Welcome Legion Hall. Prior to the City Council meeting, there will be a Public Hearing concerning the approval of the proposed assessments for the 2025 street and utility improvements project including reconstruction of sanitary sewers and water mains. See the Facebook page for the streets affected. This would be a 20-year assessment beginning in January of 2027. Those affected are welcome to attend the public hearing at 6 p.m. The City Council meeting will occur after the hearing.

CREST Lunch and Lean will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. A lunch will follow the program. These are free to senior citizens from Martin County. Crest does appreciate a free will donation.

The Welcome Economic and Development Authority is taking sealed bids for five acres of alfalfa until Friday, Sept. 18. Contact the City Hall or mail bids to Box 72, Welcome, MN 56181.

American Red Cross blood drives will be on Sept. 21 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, on Oct. 7 in Truman, on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont.
