CEYLON -- The Ceylon City Council met on Tuesday evening.
City Employee Nate Beckendorf said Jim Plumhoff’s last day was Tuesday and that he had learned a lot from him. Paul Schoen from Sherburn is on call during the 30 days Plumhoff cannot work for the city. Beckendorf asked if he could have a temporary helper that lived in Ceylon so he could call on him in emergencies only. The council approved hiring a temporary employee.
The council also heard that there is a need for some pea rock for $84. Beckendorf said that there are some equipment that have 1,000 hours or need repairs. He and the council discussed the immediate need and what to budget for next year if the equipment could be used another year or two. He requested some paint to paint the sheetrock in the city shop and the loan of a scaffold. He mentioned that his water test is scheduled for Sept. 17 and then when he passes he will be licensed.
In other business, the Lake Belt Bar and Grill requested a renewal of the liquor license and the council approved it. The Lake Belt Bar and Grill requested permission to make a patio near the bar and the council denied the permit.
The tree removal bid was approved from PTS Contractor for $3,025 to remove dead trees and stumps. The council was willing to help which would help with the price.
-- The council approved transfer of funds to pay the city shop roof repairs.
-- The proposed levy was $262,000. This can be lowered but not raised. The final budget and levy is due in December.
-- The council reports included the fire association meeting coming up and if the council would okay a $6,500 price for the trailer owned by the fire association. The council approved the offer.
-- The fire department got a power washer that needed repair and is looking into a power lift like an air filled lift. They also decided to charge for all calls whether transport is done or not.
-- Mayor Judith Perkins reported on the swap meet that was held recently. There was a shelter house full of things to swap and some did. There was a good turn out and she would like to do another swap meet in the spring.
-- The council went into a closed session for an employee review.
The Ceylon City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Oct. 13, at City Hall.
