TRUMAN -- Patriot Day is on Friday, Sept. 11. It is observed in the United States to commemorate the lives of those who died in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia and those who perished in the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93.
A farmers market will be from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, in the northern parking lot of the Truman Tavern.
Fairmont and Martin County cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Martin County Highway Department, 1200 Marcus Street. Enter from Winnebago Avenue. They will accept household hazardous waste (HHW), appliances and electronics, tires, car batteries and furniture for free. Appliances, electronics, and furniture cost $15 per item. Car tires are $3 each, semi tires/racing tires are $10 each, and tractor tires are $40 each.
Sunday is National Grandparents Day. A text, phone call or card would be appreciated and put a happy smile on their face.
Lewisville Fire Department’s annual burger bash will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Lewisville Fire Hall. Free-will donations will be accepted. To-go meals will be available. Proceeds will go to equipment.
A pork chop fundraiser will be held from 4:30 to 7 pm on Monday, Sept 14, at the Truman Fire Hall. A free-will donation will be accepted. Recycling day is Wednesday. Place recycling containers on the curb by 7 am.
Lock bags for cannabis are available at Sterling Pharmacy, Hy-Vee Pharmacy, Walgreens Pharmacy and Martin County Health and Human Services Building in Fairmont. The bags also come loaded with parent conversation guides to help adults talk about cannabis with their kids effectively and safely, and poison control cards. Second Harvest Heartland, nutrition assistance program for seniors, will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Come to Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman to pick up your box. Eligibility is based on age, 60 years and up, household size, and income. Pre-register at 1-800-365-0270.

The city-wide cleanup for the residents of Truman will be from 9 am to noon on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Prairieland Solid Waste Facility in Truman. Items accepted at no cost include couches, chairs, patio furniture, bed frames, mattresses, box springs, dressers, cabinets, bikes, scrap iron, swing/slides. There will be a fee for electronics, appliances, or any items that have a plug-in or have the cord removed. No tires or car batteries.

There is Jaguar Volleyball tonight at Granada. On Sept. 12 they travel to Sleepy Eye for varsity invitational at 9 am the Jaguar volleyball will be at Martin Luther on Sept. 15 at Martin Luther on Sept. 15.
The Jaguar football team travels to Edgerton on Friday, Sept. 11, for their 7 pm game.
