SHERBURN -- Coffee Hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in September at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and fellowship.
Today, the ladies’ group LWML in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will meet at 2 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend. There will be a mini LWML retreat at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township on Sept. 12, beginning at 11:30 with a salad luncheon. The speakers will be Curtis and Cheri Frank from the Healing Hearts Recovery House in Sherburn. Gifts from the heart will go to that home.
Church events in the area include 5 p.m. services at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in September. From October to December, they will have Sunday morning services at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s. Circle of Faith parishes will meet on Sunday, Sept. 13, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon at 9 a.m. for the only service the parishes will have that day. After the services, the Heaven’s Table Helping Hands will go to the food shelf and do some work for them. Sunday is the first day of Sunday School for the St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome at 8:30 a.m. and church services are at 9:30 a.m. St. John Lutheran Church in Sherburn is planning a service at Everett Park as their second service at 10 a.m. and followed by an egg bake brunch and some games. The first service is at 8 a.m. at the church. Their partner church, St. Paul at Wilbert, will have 9:30 a.m. services. All area residents are welcome to join any of these churches for services.
Steak Fry Night will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the American Legion Hall in Sherburn. The menu includes ribeye, shrimp, smoked pork chop, salad bar, baked potato and garlic toast.
The Martin County West athletes will have a football game on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at Mayer Lutheran High School. The volleyball games will be at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 (against Madelia) and Sept. 14 (against Cedar Mountain-Morgan) in Sherburn.
St. John’s Friendship Club will meet for lunch at noon on Monday, Sept. 14, at The Ranch restaurant in Fairmont. All are welcome to join. Membership in the club or at St. John’s is not required.
American Red Cross blood drives will be held on Sept. 21 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, on Oct. 7 in Truman, on Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont and on Oct. 23 at the American Legion in Fairmont. The Sherburn Civic and Commerce Club hopes to replace the aging wooden benches throughout the city with a powder-coated steel bench manufactured by Hanson Manufacturing in Ormsby. Each bench costs about $1,200. The club offers sponsorship opportunities for individuals, organizations or businesses to fund half of a bench ($600), and they could dedicate benches as a memorial or tribute with a name on the bench.
