Martin County West Schools are in session and there is a Tailgate Party by Bank Midwest and the Booster Club planned for the first Football game of the season at Trimont’s field. September 4 the Windom team will come to Trimont and there will be a pork chop, chips, cookie and water available for $8. Good luck, Mavericks.
Good luck to the Martin County Fair winners who will advance to the Minnesota State Fair. The Minnesota State Fair is now until Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.
There will be no school on Labor Day.
Sherburn City Council will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Sherburn City Hall.
Welcome City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the City Hall. There is always time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact the City Hall prior to the meeting date at (507) 728-8740 or in-person.
The Welcome Burn Site will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Welcome residents can bring wood, grass clippings, branches and tree trimmings that are six inches in diameter or smaller.
Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in September at St. Paul Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, treats and fellowship.
A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program's speaker will be Joyce Peterson, who will share a slide show of Duluth. Following the program there will be lunch. Please RSVP by calling (507) 235-3833 for a lunch count. These programs are free to senior citizens from Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.
The Sherburn Legion will have Hamburger Night from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Purchase a burger, salad and beans.
The Welcome Historical Society Museum on Hulseman Street will be open one more Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. American Red Cross blood drives continue in September on Sept. 1 and 2 at Best Western in Fairmont and on Sept. 21 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. In upcoming events: The Lake Promenaders Square Dance Club will meet at 3 p.m. on Sept. 13, at 804 West 1st Street in Welcome. For further information contact Cheryl at (507) 236-0255. Lessons are available. Watchers and dancers are encouraged to attend. Cheryl says “If you can walk you can square dance”. Plan to attend.
The Friendship Club from St. John Lutheran Church in Sherburn invites area residents to join them for lunch at noon on Sept. 14, at The Ranch restaurant in Fairmont. Membership in the club or at St. John’s is not required. Join some friends for lunch.
Welcome will have a public hearing about the proposed street improvements at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15 at the Welcome Legion. Fall Clean Up Day for Welcome residents will be on Oct. 10.
