MCW School District starts classes, activities

SHERBURN -- There are only a few days left of August so most of the news in the area is about September.

The Martin County West School is in session for all grades. Please drive carefully near the schools. The athletes are gearing up for the new season. Volleyball will have a game on Thursday, 8-27 at 7 p.m. vs Adrian/Ellsworth. All football games are played in Trimont. Football games will begin in September (9-4 ) Windom at MCW. There are nine candidates for the three seats for the MCW School Board election in November. One incumbent is Sarah J. Rohman, the rest are new candidates; Brandon Clarke, Cameron Kamlitz, Sam Meixell, Bethany Miller, Paul Schoen, Tom Studer, Amanda Weihe and Justin White.

Condolences to the family of Dr. Richard Lepird, who passed away recently. He will be missed by many friends and relatives.

Coffee Hours will be held from 8:3o to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in September at St. Paul Community Church in Welcome. Join friends and neighbors for fellowship, coffee and treats.

American Red Cross blood drives will be on Sept. 1 and 2 at Best Western in Fairmont and on Sept. 21 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Call 800-733-2767 (800-red-cross), visit www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999 to make an appointment or get a rapid pass the day of donation or to find further information about blood drives in the area. Blood is urgently needed since someone in the United States needs blood each three seconds. Thank You.

A Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program will be followed by lunch. These programs are free to senior citizens from Martin County. Crest sponsors these programs and does appreciate a free will donation for the lunch. Please rsvp at 507-235-3833.

Sherburn City Council will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Sherburn City Hall. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact the City Hall prior to the meeting date at (507) 764-4491 or in person.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Church welcomes area residents to join them for their lunch events. They will meet for lunch at noon on Sept. 14, at The Ranch restaurant in Fairmont. Membership in the club or at St. John’s is not required. Plan to attend.

St. John Lutheran Church from Sherburn will have an outdoor service at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13, at Everett Park. Brunch and games will follow the service. Bring a lawn chair and a friend.
