SHERBURN -- During the Sherburn City Council meeting on Monday, discussion of a 300-block West Cargill Street property connection to the city water and sewer continued. The owner and contractor showed videos of the camera shots taken of the over 100 feet of sewer line reached via the manhole. The conditions are not ideal with mud and non-working connections. The line is estimated to be from the 1950s and poor infiltration, water flow and hydraulic overload were mentioned. The question of who owns the property with water issues is unknown. The owner of the property asked the city to find the answer, perhaps by land records or easement records. The ordinance plainly stipulates that the owner is responsible for connecting to the main tile. The owner will find more information and return to the city council for a solution to the problem of connecting to the main line.
The assistant clerk said that abatement for daycare sites was being worked on. The 2027 budget is also in the works. Budget concerns include the roof and carpet at city hall. The park bathrooms need work, and the shelter house fee concern has been resolved.
Council reports included a question: if a property is outside of the city, why would city workers ask about permits? The assistant clerk explained that they must ensure permits are provided as needed and follow county and state regulations. Another question concerned what tax abatement is available for a new business in the city and county and another question was about a part-time city employee painting parking slots and curbs. A utility worker will add that to a list of things to do.
In addition to his monthly report, Police Chief Trevor Yochim added that officer Carolyn Lyon was recognized by the Child and Family Advocacy Center in Mankato for a job well done.
