SHERBURN -- The CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. RSVP by calling CREST at (507) 235-3833. These programs are free for senior citizens from Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.
Burger Night is from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the American Legion in Sherburn. Get a burger, salad and beans for $12.
The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 20, for Martin County West School District students in grades 7 to 12, and Monday, Aug. 24, for MCW School District students in grades pre-kindergarten to 6. There will be no school on Labor Day, Sept. 7.
The Trimont Farmers Market will not be held on Friday because it coincides with the Martin County Fair, which runs from now until Sunday, Aug. 23. Good luck to all the fair exhibitors from FFA, 4-H, and open class.
The Circle of Faith parishes will meet for services at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. They will have an ice cream social after services from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu includes barbecue, ice cream, bars and beverages, and the proceeds of the free will donation will go to CREST. This is sponsored by Waverly Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church.
The American Legion in Sherburn will hold its annual sweet corn and pork chop feed from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23. The menu includes regular or smoked pork chop, sweet corn, cabbage salad and dessert for $12.
Memory Cafe for caregivers and family of any dementia patient will meet at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn. The public is welcome to join this free support group.
The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, and Wednesday, Aug. 26, near Sherburn City Hall. Call the appointment number and mention Sherburn Clinic at (507) 238-8500.
American Red Cross blood drives will be on Aug. 21 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont, and Sept. 1 and 2 at the Best Western in Fairmont. Blood is urgently needed; donate if you are eligible (age 16 or older, weigh 110 pounds or more and are in good health). One donation may save the lives of three people.
Coffee Hours will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. The Coffee Hours on Tuesdays in September will be at St. Paul Community Church in Welcome.
News from St. John’s includes a Church service at the Everett Park at Fox Lake from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 13, with a brunch after the service. Bring a lawn chair and a friend. St. John’s is accepting registration for Sunday School, which will begin with a Rally and Veggie Races on Sept. 20 after the 8 a.m. service and be followed by a meal.
The St. John's Friendship Club will meet at noon on Sept. 14 at The Ranch Restaurant in Fairmont. All are welcome to join them on the first Monday of the month. Membership in the club or at St. John’s is not required.
