Primary election day on Aug. 11

CEYLON -- Circle of Faith Parishes, including St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon, will have one service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, at the home of Jon Saxen on South Fox Lake. Directions are in the Ripple newsletter. After the outdoor service, the council will serve a picnic lunch and have fun activities. Bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, they will meet at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. The regular August services for the Circle of Faith Parishes are at 9 a.m. on Sundays at First Lutheran Church in Trimont and 10:30 a.m. services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Area residents are welcome to join them for services.

Heritage Acres in Fairmont will have its annual Threshing Day on Sunday, Aug. 9. Activities include an antique tractor parade at 2 p.m., a petting zoo, pork chops on a stick, face painting, vendors, and the Galaxy Band performing from noon to 3 p.m. There is no gate fee. It is handicap accessible.

Condolences to the family of Todd L. Anderson, who passed away recently. He will be missed by family and friends. Gone too soon.

American Red Cross blood drives will be on Aug. 10 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, Aug. 21 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont, and Sept. 1 and 2 at the Best Western in Fairmont. Primary election day is on Tuesday, Aug. 11, and Ceylon's voting place is City Hall. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. This election requires the voter to choose one party.

Coffee Hours will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in August at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Coffee Lovers meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Thursdays in the banquet room of the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. These are two opportunities to enjoy fellowship and coffee.

Those who wish to receive Heaven’s Table Food Shelf food boxes should sign up by Thursday, Aug. 13, by calling (507) 236-7850. The Helping Hands of Ceylon will help answer questions and explain guidelines. They will distribute the food boxes from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 21. Thank you to the Helping Hands of Ceylon for their help with the food boxes. Congratulations on receiving a $6,000 grant, which they will use to replace unsafe older park play equipment. Your efforts are appreciated. This group could always use more help and members, contact the number listed for the food boxes.

The Martin County Fair will be from Aug. 17 to Aug. 23. Good luck to the exhibitors from FFA, 4-H and the open class. Plan to attend Minnesota’s Other Big Fair.

The Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon is planning special events in August, including a Girls’ Night Out with Australian male dancers from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, and Little Mania Wrestling at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24.
