Hamburger Night tonight at Sherburn Legion

SHERBURN -- CREST Lunch and Learn will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program will be about wood carving, presented by Mr. Beckendorf. The program and lunch are free for Martin County senior citizens. Call CREST at (507) 235-3833 to RSVP. Hamburger Night, which includes a burger, salad and beans, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Steak Fry Night, which includes shrimp, pork chop, ribeye, baked potato and salad, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the American Legion in Sherburn. Plan to attend these fundraisers.

American Red Cross blood drives will be today, Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Aug. 10 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, Aug. 21 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont, and Sept. 1 and 2 at the Best Western in Fairmont. The Civic and Commerce Club will meet at noon on Thursday, Aug. 6, at Bank Midwest in Sherburn. All members and anyone interested should attend.

Coffee Hours will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in August at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for fellowship around a cup of coffee and treats.

Since the ladies’ group LWML will be busy serving at the coffee hours, the LWML will not meet in August at St. John’s. They are collecting baby items for their monthly project. At St. John’s, they will have a special service Sunday, Aug. 9, and will show highlights and photos from the Youth Group’s Mission Trip to Nashville. They would like to thank all those who helped and attended the Camp Omega Day Camp in July. They had 55 attend. Their Sunday School registration is online at www.sjlsherburn.com/sundayschool now. St. John’s has 8 a.m. services on Sundays.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 and Wednesday, Aug. 12, near City Hall in Sherburn. Call the appointment number at (507) 238-8500.

The Trimont Farmers Market will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays, at Anderson Park, and includes activities for children from 10 a.m. to noon, lunch and vendors.

Congratulations to Sherburn City Clerk Andrea Ballard and Fairmont City Clerk Betsy Steuber, who graduated from the Municipal Clerk’s Institute.

Heritage Acres in Fairmont will have its annual Threshing Day on Sunday, Aug. 9. Activities include an antique tractor parade at 2 p.m., pork chop on a stick, vendors, and the Galaxy Band performing from noon to 3 p.m.

The Martin County West School District will have teacher workshops from Aug. 17 to 21. High school grades 7-12 begin school on Aug. 20. All other grades begin school on Aug. 24. The dates are a little earlier than usual because the new school construction and demolition of the former high school are planned for next year. Exciting days for MCW.
