CEYLON -- Welcome August. Where did the summer go? If it is August, the Martin County Fair is not far off, and will be from Aug. 17 to Aug. 23. Martin County West Schools will start on Aug. 20.
The Circle of Faith Parishes are reminded that they are following the summer schedule for services so Sunday 9 a.m. services in August will be at First Lutheran Church in Trimont and 10:30 services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. On August 9 the parishes will have one combined service at the Saxen Lake Home on West South Fox Lake Drive followed by a picnic lunch. The meal will be furnished by the Council. Members are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.
Sundaes at the Park will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2, at Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. The entertainment will be by Lucy Larson and Bryon Kittleson. Bring lawn chairs, purchase ice cream and enjoy the music.
Coffee Hours will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in August at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for fellowship around a cup of coffee and treats. Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Thursdays at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill’s banquet room in Ceylon. All are welcome to join.
The Ceylon City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at City Hall. The primary election is on Aug. 11. Public comments and questions will be accepted at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, contact City Hall prior to the meeting date at (507) 632-4653.
Condolences to the family of Cindy “Bee” Nelson (Kittleson) who passed away recently. She was part of the Bee Kays family band from Ceylon. She will be missed by many friends and family.
The WELCA women’s group from St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the church. They will discuss page 24 of the Summer Gather Magazine and Shirley Schmidt will be hostess. All members are encouraged to attend.
CREST Lunch and Learn will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program will be about wood carving presented by Mr. Beckendorf. The program and lunch are free for Martin County senior citizens. Call CREST at (507) 235-3833 to RSVP. American Red Cross blood drives will be on Aug. 5 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Aug. 10 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn, Aug. 21 at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont, and Sept. 1 and 2 at the Best Western in Fairmont. The Helping Hands of Ceylon non-profit group is arranging for the food boxes from Heaven’s Table to be delivered in Ceylon. Please call (507) 236- 7850 by Aug. 13 sign up for a delivery, which will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 21. There are guidelines and each month needs a sign up for the box. Thank you to that group for handling the arrangements for Ceylon area residents.
The Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon have special events in August, including a Ladies Night Out with Australian Male Dancers on Aug. 19 and Mini Man Wrestlers on Aug. 24.
