SHERBURN -- During the Sherburn City Council meeting on Monday, several Civic and Commerce Club representatives requested permission to purchase/order benches for the park. They said they would be open for donations to place a bench at the park and have a design to show a memorial or something meaningful for that person on the bench. The benches are about 200 pounds and made of structural steel and could be left out year-round they thought. They would allow residents to move the benches to where they needed them but they must return the benches to the cement area. The city may get a bench or however many they would like and have the city logo on it. The cost is $6,00 per bench for the city. The council approved their request.
Bolton and Menk engineer Travis Winter explained the GIS Proposal that the city would use for online mapping. There would be multitudes of uses like curb stops, water shut offs, meters, service lines, ordinance violations. The council approved the proposal which would cost $7,000 and have three applications now.
In its monthly report, the Municipal Liquor Store shared that the bartender is back to work, the basement has been cleaned and organized, the cooler is still in the works and no special events are planned for this month.
In old business, Sherburn Theatre discussions were held. Two council members asked nearby cities about how they work owning their theatre and were sent contracts and information. Most of the information was what the council had discussed and the changes on a contract with the management were things like rent and insurance. The movies are very expensive, around $500 to $2,500 a piece. The money donated was about $10,300 and was not deposited yet. The council discussed the account and approved ordering a server and depositing the money to pay for it. The payment will be voted on at an upcoming meeting.

-- In the clerk's report, the affidavits of candidacy are to be filed by Tuesday, July 28, at the City Hall for mayor and two council members.
-- The city attorney should be contacted about property that is to be labeled condemned, such as the old creamery. The council approved beginning the steps needed to condemn some properties.
-- The council went into closed session discussing personnel at the Municipal Liquor Store.
