Few file for seats in first week

MARTIN COUNTY-- A week into the filing period for city and school board leaders, several incumbents, along with some new names, have entered the race.

In the city of Fairmont, Jay Maynard of ward one and Randy Lubenow of ward three have each filed to retain their seat while Aaron Meier has filed for mayor. Lee Baarts is currently serving his first term as mayor and has not yet filed for reelection.

In Welcome, Dan Schmidtke has filed to retain his seat as mayor and Lynda Stauter has filed to retain her seat as a council member.

In Trimont, Alyssa Niezgocki has filed as a council member. Bradford Flohrs and Justin Lubben's seats are currently open.

On the school side, both Mike Edman and Jen Harris have filed to retain their seats on the Fairmont School Board.

The filing period remains open through July 28.
